Album View: One Track Minds' New Record "A Price to be Paid"

This year, rock fans continue to receive exciting stuff from emerging artist such as this intriguing Norwegian rockers called, One Track Minds. Having an interesting name as a band, they certainly do posses an intriguing taste of music as they combine several interesting elements such as surf, psychedelic, rock, pop and alternative into one all in their latest album titled “A Price to be Paid” which had its official release back in October 1st, 2016. On this record, the rockers recorded 10 tracks that can take music lovers into a fascinating musical adventure with somewhat uncommon vibe, at least not for this current generation.

 

Starting things out, One Track Minds immediately put out the album's title track, which showcase an interesting mixed between catchy pop tunes, with rock alternative vibe. This song has that exciting hook that can easily attract attention many music lovers, from the older generation and also current ones since it has such fun feel into it. 'To the Other Side' offer more psychedelic approach, creating that mysterious atmosphere all around when listening to it. It also has that slight alt rock vibe blending in well, giving a rather nice overall balance. 'River of Life' brings out an acoustic feel with that alternative take into the song, creating another intriguing musical atmosphere.

 

'She' is very interesting as the band showed their bluesy side with that surf atmosphere that at times might taste a bit country. However, the basic alternative-psychedelic approach that they continue to implement somewhat brought that different dimension into the song, making it another interesting tune to check out. 'Desolate Soul' has a crunchy guitar distortion that can instantly catch the ear of rock lovers, not to mention a fine guitar melody being added into it. Although the vocal approach seems to have a different vibe from it's music, but they still blend it quite well. 'Coming Down' is another track that has a strong surf rock kind of atmosphere, especially during its intro. The alternative vibe eventually catching up as the track goes, but once again it's an interesting combination that made things very unique.

 

'Trash' has that fun late 70's early 80's vibe with that fine combo of pop, alternative and surf rock that along with another catchy hook, creating an enjoyable track. 'Bad Vibrations' seems to continue that surf rock-alternative vibe, but this track offer more guitar distortion that create a slightly different vibe compared to previous songs. Another acoustic piece can be enjoyed through 'Joana' that is quite soothing and easy listening, even for those who are not that keen with this genre. The last song from the band is called 'Closer' which is one of those haunting psychedelic-rock piece that can take people into a mysterious musical journey that they might not really expect to have. Overall, the songs being presented by One Track Minds on their new album “A Price to be Paid” are pretty mush representative of their musical style and preference which albeit might not be to everyone's ears but surely worthy enough for fans who are keen with this genre.

 

Formed in winter of 2015, the band consisting of Jon Reier Sylte(Guitar/Vocals), Ole Kristian Malmedal (Organ/Drums), Olav Edvard Lossius Meisingset (Drums/Percussion), Bendik Ohr Iversen (Bass) and Tor Inge Eikrem (Tambourine/Shakers) are determined in getting their music heard with this debut record. Having that vintage kind of feel for music doesn't make them less interesting as One Track Minds pretty showed that they are musically talented and have that ability in creating quality music that are true to themselves and remain interesting. Mixing that sweet pop-alternative melody with somewhat dark, mysterious psychedelic sound is quite intriguing indeed, though at first it might not appeal to everyone, but once people got into their world, they might not know when to get out of it.
