Album Review: Andy Timmons Band New Album "Theme From A Perfect World"

Back on September 30 this year (2016), guitar heads all over the globe should be feeling some sort of joy as they can already grabbed Andy Timmons' new album entitled “Theme From A Perfect World”. Already receiving the record since early September, it wasn't until recently that I had the opportunity to fully check it out and eventually write this review. This latest outing from Andy, under the name Andy Timmons Band is his eight studio release, so there's somewhat insurance in terms of quality that we can expect from the guitar maestro. On this new record, the guitar virtuoso produced 10 top notch rock instrumental track that can trigger strong affection from music fans of this genre, notably fans of the maestro.

Starting out the new record, Andy opted to entertain fans with 'Ascension', which is a fun melodic rock instrumental piece with such lovely hook. This track has that soothing feel that can provide a calming atmosphere for anyone who listens to it and as always the guitar maestro's excellent tone control can be visibly heard right away. 'Winterland' has quite similar vibe as the previous track, but still offer some fresh and entertaining playing, notably during the solo part. The title track of this record started of with a beautiful intro and continue to sound magical until the end as it has couple of interesting musical changes. It's one of those melodic rock-ballad piece from Andy Timmons that always get into your soul as it has such an ear pleasing melody and composition.

'Sanctuary' is quite interesting with such mysterious kind of vibe early on before the distortion hits and change things into an up lifting rockin atmosphere. 'The Next Voice You Hear' is another treat for any fans of melodic ballad piece as it's another lovely stuff being delivered by Andy that should entertain any music enthusiasts.'Lift Us Up' (Something Wicked This Way Comes) has that encouraging feel into it, switching between a rather mellow vibe with energetic atmosphere. 'That Day' offers that deep and gloomy feel, but still possess wonderful melodic sense that somehow managed to spark things up. Another fun ear-catchy melodic rock piece can be heard from 'Firenze', while 'Welcome Home' is such an upbeat track with fine riffs and beautiful composition overall. Finally this musical journey ends with 'On Your Way Sweet Soul' that somewhat present a bittersweet emotion in such beautiful and melodic way, truly a fine selection to be placed as an album's final track.

Overall, Andy Timmons can be proud with the release of “Theme for a Perfect World” as it is an interesting guitar instrumental album that isn't just about technical prowess or complicated playing, but also excellent composition, melody and notably feel. Just like he stated recently, on this new record, the maestro is keen on expressing how his musical taste has grow throughout the years and specifically for the latest release there's more emotion and melodic playing being offered. In working for the record, Andy tapped his long time bassist, Mike Daane along with Rob Avhsarian and Mike Marie, both on drums. The chemistry and combination of those musicians are excellent indeed as music fans can pretty much felt it by checking out this new album, which was unleashed via the guitarist's own label Timstone Records. Fans of instrumental music, especially guitar heads should really check out this album as it's something that will give that emotional melodic sensation.
